Blended and Hybrid Education, the Integration of Online and In-person Education
Currently, CLASSUM is interested in exploring changes in the EdTech industry. CLASSUM carefully analyzed and selected five trending keywords, the third of which is Blended and Hybrid Education.
The pandemic changed everyone’s lifestyle over the past two years. All in-person activities have been converted to digital modes through online services and data collection.
Will life in the post-Covid-19 era be the same as before the pandemic? The pandemic era has brought to light the benefits and drawbacks of online education and hybrid work. However, in-person systems are still preferred over online in some cases. In fact, there have been occurrences where online education has shown critical limitations compared to in-person education.
Thus, a fusion of online and in-person education systems is predicted to be widely used after the pandemic.
What is Blended and Hybrid Education?
Nowadays, corporations and educational institutions are demanding an updated learning system to avoid the significant limitations of online education. As a response to this issue, the integration of online and in-person education has begun to rapidly expand. Many educational settings have already adopted the blended and hybrid learning models worldwide. Sometimes we use blended learning and hybrid learning interchangeably, as both involve in-person and online learning. Still, nowadays, the two terms have new and distinct meanings.
Blended education occurs in traditional in-person classrooms with a simultaneous mix of the online and offline learning curriculum, which complement and cancel each other’s limitations. Online education has no restrictions in the virtual space, where any adjustments can be made throughout the learning process. However, it has limitations regarding cognitive and social developments, which are better achieved through in-person education. In CLASSUM, educators and learners can share various learning materials (e.g., files, images, videos, links, etc.). This allows learners to control and personalize the time, place, and curriculum path for their learning and complements in-person learning.
Hybrid education involves both in-person and online learners attending class simultaneously. Students can interact with instructors online and offline depending on their preferred choice of learning environment. Using CLASSUM, both in-person and online learners can post their questions and share their thoughts in real-time during class. Educators and peers can immediately answer the questions or provide resources to help each other.
In the future, blended and hybrid education will be favored among corporations and educational institutions. They offer an effective learning platform that takes advantage of in-person and online education benefits. They will help corporations and universities overcome the limitations of physical interaction and foster better communication for learning. EdTech tools such as CLASSUM take advantage of blended and hybrid learning to create the best learning environment for all in-person and online learners.
