Using Kahoot! Games with CLASSUM.
With the rapid increase in asynchronous and online learning environments, educators in various sectors are seeking out methods to engage learners as effectively as in offline settings. Kahoot!, a digital learning tool, has been garnering a lot of attention globally as a possible solution to this problem. Ever since its launch in 2013, Kahoot! has been utilizing gamification to energize learning in spaces such as schools and workplaces. Through Kahoot!, anyone can easily create quiz games that engage learners through friendly competition while helping them retain important information.
CLASSUM is delighted to have solidified a partnership with Kahoot! in April 2022 as we believe both companies share the idea that collaboration and learner engagement are the keys to education. Kahoot! offers many exciting features that complement CLASSUM such as team mode games, live games, and background music. To help you better understand what it looks like to incorporate Kahoot! into CLASSUM, we have prepared four possible scenarios of synergizing these two tools.
#1. Real-time/Recorded Sessions
You can engage learners during learning sessions, check individual learning progress, and facilitate active Q&As through using Kahoot! with CLASSUM. When conducting real-time lectures, start a live Kahoot! during the session by sharing the game screen. Learners can participate in the game by either entering the game code or by scanning the QR code with their digital devices.
If you would like to share Kahoot! as an assignment to complete after watching a recorded session, first post the recorded VOD in the CLASSUM Coursework space. Then, create a Kahoot! game and click “Assign” to set a deadline for learners to participate in the quiz. Finally, share the Kahoot! link or the QR code in the comments section of the VOD so that learners can complete the quiz after watching the recording. You can even pin the link and the QR code on the top for participants to easily find the Kahoot! among other comments.
In the CLASSUM Community space, encourage participants to ask and answer questions regarding the quiz and the learning session. You can even select which questions to address first by referring to the ranking of questions that received the most attention in the analytics page. In addition, our AI assistant, DOT, helps deal with repetitive questions by directing learners to similar question posts that have already been answered.
#2. Ice-breaking Sessions
Host fun and interactive ice-breaking sessions with Kahoot! and CLASSUM. First, have the participants share an interesting fact about themselves through a feedback post in CLASSUM. Only the space admin will be able to view participants’ comments in a feedback post. After collecting the responses, choose the “onboarding selfie kahoot” template to create a game. After enjoying the live ice-breaking session, guide the learners to post their self-introduction in CLASSUM to further increase interaction among participants. Learners can casually ask each other questions and chat about their interests through the comments section under each self-introduction post.
#3. Group Activities
With CLASSUM, you can facilitate group discussions and keep track of group activities, and with Kahoot!, you can conduct friendly group competitions. To begin with, inform participants about their assigned groups using an announcement post, or encourage them to form their own groups by chatting with one another in the CLASSUM Community space. Once the groups are finalized, you can conduct various activities via the CLASSUM platform. For example, you can create separate spaces or note posts for each group to share their materials and have group discussions. You can also easily monitor which learners are actively participating by referring to the analytics page.
With Kahoot!, try using the team mode to boost learners’ cooperation. You can even enjoy a podium celebration to add more excitement!
#4. Recap Session
When a semester has ended in your school or a year has passed at your workplace, you can present an honest and engaging recap session. With Kahoot!, we suggest using the “word cloud” questions for shorter responses and the “open-ended” questions for longer responses to get an overall picture of how the participants feel about their experiences. You can also select several keywords from the responses to discuss together.
For more personal and honest feedback from the participants, create an anonymous survey in CLASSUM so that you can improve the quality of upcoming programs based on their opinions.
In this blog series, we have introduced several scenarios of how you can use CLASSUM with Gather, Padlet, and Kahoot! to unleash the full potential of learners. As an all-in-one education hub, CLASSUM is continuously developing new features and incorporating various educational tools to better the learning experience for both learners and educators.
