Using the Gather Metaverse with CLASSUM
The metaverse is a three-dimensional virtual world that users can navigate using virtual and augmented reality technology. Over the past year, CLASSUM has enjoyed partnering with Gather, a leading metaverse platform that has changed the way people interact online. Gather launched in May of 2020, when the pandemic was first impacting people around the world and plunging them headfirst into the unknown territory of virtual work, education, and socialization. The metaverse platform offers the closest virtual alternative to in-person interaction, bringing people together to chat, hang out, and simply exist together in a three-dimensional online space. The CLASSUM Team enjoys using Gather among ourselves and saw the potential in combining Gather with CLASSUM as a powerful tool for maximizing engagement in online learning.
Navigating two different learning tools might seem daunting at first, so CLASSUM would like to provide you with some ideas for how to effectively and seamlessly use Gather together with CLASSUM. Keep in mind that you can always open CLASSUM and Gather together on one device using different tabs, but another great way to use the two at the same time is by opening Gather on PC and CLASSUM on your mobile device!
#1: Real-Time Lectures
Host fun and interactive real-time lectures in Gather that almost recreate an in-person environment and make participants feel as if they are physically together in the same room. Spark more engagement and participation through real-time discussion and face-to-face interaction. Simultaneously, encourage participants to comfortably ask and answer each other’s questions in CLASSUM, with the option of posting anonymously. In doing so, learners can kickstart autonomous learning among themselves, carrying forward the learning even after the lecture. CLASSUM’s AI assistant, Dot, will group similar questions and answer redundant questions for you to save time!
You can also save and export discussion comments as PDF files through the “Analytics” menu.
Encourage students to continue discussions outside of class in Gather, embracing the continuous learning culture in your organization!
#2: Team Building
Utilize the interactive nature of Gather to build and connect teams, whether in your company or school. By creating a “Self-Introduction” CLASSUM category and notifying participants to introduce themselves using the “note” function, participants can comment under each others’ posts and naturally create teams among themselves.
This easy and effective team building technique can be used for projects, whether planned or spontaneous, or even for socializing and bonding. Groups and any other space participants can use Gather to converse and simulate in-person interactions, facilitating even more connections and bonding opportunities.
#3: Projects
Once your teams are built, they can use Gather to plan and execute projects. In Gather, participants can enter private group spaces without an administrator’s approval or assignment. These spaces allow participants to communicate solely with the members in that room, without audio interference from the other rooms. Administrators still have a bird’s eye visual view of space activities, so they can monitor which teams are gathered and what work is being done.
Teams can utilize the digital whiteboards in each room and share screens to collaborate on work together.
Team members can post materials from Gather meetings such as notes, whiteboard files, and presentations in the CLASSUM space for future reference. It is also a way to keep those who were not part of the meeting in the loop, as they can share their thoughts by commenting under the posted materials in CLASSUM.
We listed only three creative ways to integrate CLASSUM seamlessly with Gather, but everyone can find their own unique ways to maximize the benefits of the two tools! We hope we inspired you to experiment using the metaverse in your institutions, whether a company or school.
